Bathurst Can Break Your Heart in an Instant
After charging from 12th and climbing as high as second, Will Brown and Scott Pye looked to have a genuine shot at conquering the Mountain. Then the rain came. In treacherous conditions, Brown lost the #1 Camaro at Griffins Bend and slammed into the tyre wall, the impact ripping away the rear wing and tearing the bonnet from the car, leaving it draped across his windscreen as he fought simply to make it back to pit lane. It was a brutal image: the reigning Supercars champion crawling home in a battered, almost unrecognisable race car, watching a potential Bathurst victory disappear in seconds. Brown later called it the best car he had ever driven around Bathurst in the dry and apologised to his team, knowing he would have to wait another year for the chance to tame the Mountain.
