With the correct engine restrictor finally fitted to Car #888, Will Brown fought back with three podiums – including an emotional Race 27 victory, his first in more than 12 months. Queensland Raceway was the moment #888 returned to the front.
Before Ipswich, Triple Eight discovered Car #888 had been running with an engine air restrictor one millimetre smaller than prescribed, negatively affecting engine performance. With the correct restrictor fitted and a new chassis for the weekend, Brown finally had the opportunity to compete on equal horsepower.
The response was immediate. Brown finished third in Race 26 before producing a thrilling charge to victory in Race 27. Following two late Safety Cars, he passed Matt Payne for second before making a decisive move on Kai Allen at Turn 2 to take the lead. Brown held on to claim his first victory of 2026 – and his first in more than 12 months.
On Sunday, Brown put the #888 Mustang on pole before finishing third in Race 28. Three podiums, a victory and a pole transformed Ipswich into more than a successful race weekend. After months of frustration, it was a moment of vindication and renewed belief – and a reminder of what Brown and the #888 crew could achieve when given the opportunity to fight at the front.
