Broc Feeney arrived at Queensland Raceway facing an enormous task. He trailed Sprint Cup leader Matt Payne by 118 points, with even a dominant weekend unlikely to be enough without trouble striking his rival. By Sunday morning, the deficit was still 110 points. Feeney needed a podium – and something extraordinary to happen.
Then everything changed. Midway through Race 28, Payne suffered an engine failure and was forced into pit lane. Suddenly, the impossible was within reach. Feeney was already out front and, under immense pressure, delivered exactly what was required – powering the #88 Mustang to victory in his 150th Supercars race start.
That victory completed one of the most unlikely turnarounds of the 2026 season. From 118 points behind entering Ipswich, Feeney emerged as the Sprint Cup winner for the second consecutive year, securing his place in the Finals and 25 bonus points. It was a reminder that in motorsport, nothing is over until the chequered flag falls.
